c Chicago. week 15. mini beats

dear c,
I decided to spend the week with B. He agreed to be my photographer. (C is off working on some other show. She has yet to apologize.)

B has a lot of cool looking devices. I don't know what they all do so I thought I should start with the one that looked the most familiar. (look at the lovely fikus tree he has)

I quickly realized that I was quite limited on the keyboard. B's keyboard is a little too big for me. So, I decided to try his guitar and plug in a bunch of his effects pedals. The guitar was WAY too heavy for me so I left it on the other side of the room. I figured out that I could still make a lot of cool sounds by just running my hand across the strings and then playing with all of the knobs. B said the best knobs are on the digital delay pedal. He said to play with the delay time and the feedback ratio. I don't know exactly what they do, but I know that I like the way they sound!!!

The pedals were fun, but I think the best time I had was playing with the computer and the Akai APC40 performance controller. (it seems like a lot of the equipment that B uses has weird names that are a series of letters and numbers).

This device was so cool. I could use it to modify sounds that were in the computer. I could push buttons and sounds would start playing. I could also twist the knobs to change the way the sound played. I think you would have a lot of fun doing this too.

I'll figure out a way to upload some tracks that I made this past week. Perhaps we should start a band someday? We could call ourselves c & c music factory. Oh, wait, B just told that name is already taken. No matter, I like making beats. We can think of a name later.

c Chicago. week 14. after hours

Dear c,
This evening, after C went to bed, I went into my corner in the world and found the following scene.
All I can guess is that C needed the structure of my world and left my creations in a heap.

I have had it. How many weeks have I been helping her because she is "behind on work". All I have wanted to do was continue to make my own world. I had a plan even. For some reason or another, ever since we got back from vacation C's life keeps getting in my way.

I am inspired by your late night sessions and your tripod to control your pictures. Up until now C has been taking my pix. I do not have my own camera, so that is not an option. But I decided to ask B to take my pix for a while.

I think C and I are on a break.

c Chicago. week 14. puppetry part 2.

Gwen and I worked on some puppetry heads. 3 of them are Freud, Jung and Reich.
Can you tell who is who?

c Chicago. week 14. meeting Sally!

This week was kind of amazing. I got to meet Chelsea's Australian mentor and collaborator Sally Goers Fox! S and her husband Chris had a layover in Chicago and C and I went to have lunch with them! And now there are possible plans for me to go to AUSTRALIA in 2012. (hard to imagine what life will be like then, 100 weeks into the blog or so...)

p.s. This photo is especially for Patricia Rose. C's dear friend who also lives in Australia. And I must confess that C did not pose in the orginal photo, but for Patricia we have photoshopped her in!

c Niagara Falls. week 13. exhausted.

insomnia has plagued me...
 puppets

miniatures

i too have spent night after night working on puppets!

i have tried to keep up appearances by going out with C,
but i just don't have time for her life right now.

when i was in d.C. i learned about the Civil War and Confederacy

i can't stop thinking about it

this country's history blows my mind

i am now making a toy theatre from my inspiration

unfortunately my first attempt was more like fetus sized theatre... too small for the human eye

p.s.  i figured out how to set my camera up on a tripod since i work in the night while C is sleeping.

C Niagara Falls. Week 13.

Seems like somebody is getting a lot of attention lately...
I have a going away party at my aunt's house tomorrow.  I received this e-mail from her today...

Hi Chan,
Don't forget to bring mini c...I have a present for her :)
See you Saturday,
Aunt Cathy

c Chicago. week 13. pt. dream.

I had the craziest puppet dream last night! After a week of puppet creation....next thing you know, they are in my dreams. It was something about my playing a grande piano and puppets of Salvador Dali, Claude Monet and Frida Kahlo were my backup singers. I can't remember what we were singing. And I do not know how to play piano. But it was a fun time!

c Chicago. week 13. puppet creation.

This week C has been making some puppets for a workshop of Tiny Rooms at the About Face XYZ festival. At first I wanted to work on my own thing, but everything C was up to was super fascinating, so I poked my head in from time to time. Who knew that making puppets could be so interesting!
One of the puppets is made from parts of a typewriter. First of all, typewriters are super heavy! There are so many mini screws. My mini hands were perfect for the job of deconstruction.
Another puppet is a young boy named Teddy.

C says his hand is made of the same stuff as mine. But that makes absolutely no sense to me. They look nothing alike. I mean, he is cute and all, but can he take apart a typewriter!?
p.s. I got puppet skills now and am thinking that maybe someday I will make my own puppet.
