C Chicago

Photo Shoot One continued (by other C):
Storming into the cemetery office after us, he exclaimed:
"Did they tell you what they did?"
"They set dolls on Eternal Silence!"
(at the time I did not realize that he was referring to the Taft sculpture, I thought he was a poetic security guard referring to the cemetery as "eternal silence".)
(since when did dolls equal dissidence?)
I blurted out: "We were not trying to be disrespectful." (mind you, I am wearing a bright pink shirt at the time, and C is wearing her Madeline coat----you know our regular menacing hood lum attire)

There was no reasoning with the man and the sweet elderly lady behind the counter was speechless.

It was a fabulous beginning.

C Chicago

Photo Shoot One: In honor of Lorado Taft: We knew this would be the first and last photo blog that would happen with both C's and c's all together. It was important that our photographs were unique to Chicago. Taft (1860-1936) was an American sculptor who mainly did large scale figurative.

What better than to start our Photo blog Journey in the cemetery? Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, home of two of Taft's sculptures.

On Friday June 18th C, the c's and I made our way into the cemetery. Beautiful glinting sun poured over the graves. There it was, off in the distance, standing tall and dark. The grave "Eternal Silence", our first honorary subject. C and I excitedly began to set up our first shot. c's mimicking the stance of "Eternal Silence". It was beautiful. As we each stood on our respective sides about take take photo's C said to me "Look... it's our reflections in the tomb stone behind". It was kind of amazing. I took one photo, I took a second and on the verge of taking a third I was interrupted by a beastly security guard in a pick up truck yelling "Get out of here, put those in your bags and get out of here!!" You could tell he was treating us the way the bully's in fifth grade treated him. Minutes, it was no more than four minutes that we were in the cemetery and out.

The bad news is we left having only photographed one of our subjects. We already failed our own mission. The other sculpture was of a crusader at the grave of Chicago Daily News publisher Victor Lawson. Good news is the one we photographed was sweet.

C's Chicago

This is exciting. It is our first post, the first post of the C's and c's. Much has been done in preparation. Plans made. Outfits decided and sewn to match. Weeks spent widdling away at clay. Brain storming R&R (more to come soon!) in a 9 hour car ride between NF and Chi town.

And now, moments before they are separated, and the true dialogue of this blog begins, both C's and c's sit on a back porch in Chicago IL and prepare this inaugural blog together.

What is this blog about you may ask?
Hmmmm
One C thinks this is a good question that we are not 100% sure of the answer.
Other C hopes that you will come along for the journey of finding the "meaning" of this blog.

In the meantime we will share our starting point:

1. 2 artist friends who like to make things and take pictures of things.
2. 2 artist friends who will soon be living on separate continents.
3. Idea! Lets make miniature versions of our selves and take photos of them together here in Chicago.
4. Then, when separated the c's can correspond and send each other weekly pictures, to stay in touch.
5. Oh wait. Realization! The C's just realized that perhaps this is all just a creative way to keep in touch.

So....starting next week (after C moves to Niagara Falls for the summer and later to London in the fall) the c's will begin their weekly correspondence.

Rules: One correspondence per week per c.
