c Chicago. correspondence week 4b.

Oh, I forgot to mention. With you being in NF, I sometimes feel blue being the only person my size. As you noted, last week I got to play with Eleanor and Imogene, who were closer. But this week has been full of giants (Todd).

After Chicago flooded, I was sitting outside and finally found a friend my same size.

I came back the next day, and she disappeared along with the flood.

hopefully it will rain again soon.

dear c,
this week has been busy.
C had a big project due on Thursday, was teaching, assisting Todd Rosenthal and other such business.

So, she decided that since I was such a great help in CenterLine studios a few weeks ago, that she would put me to work again.
I think because I am small (compared to C) I am better at working on 1/4" scale items.

Todd seemed to agree that we did a pretty good job.

i am starting to think that making stuff is better than spending my days sitting next to house plants. I might start making my own stuff someday. What do you think?

c,
This week has been huge.

As you know! I went on a trip for C's wedding to Niagara Falls and Buffalo and I thought I would share some pix from the trip...

I was very excited about flying for the first time.
However, the flight there had delays and lay overs.
I found that sometimes flying is not very fun.
Lots of sitting in airports.

It was so nice to get to see you again!
Your dress and hair looked fantastic.
I was not surprised, but very impressed.

And it was so nice getting together with the Chicago friends in Niagara Falls!

We have such awesome friends!

Thanks for introducing me to fish. It was nice to meet some locals from Niagara Falls.

C's party danced long into the night.
Thank goodness we were all smiling and exhausted by the time we had to say our goodbyes. :)

Also in Buffalo I got to meet some of C's friends: Monica, Brian, Eleanor and Imogene. They were lovely.
Imogene and I played together a bit.

Eleanor taught me to play Candyland!

And then Brett took me on a tour of the undergrad you and C went to. He showed me around to all the places that he and C spent time falling in love:
The CFA...

Slee Hall (the concert hall where brett had an office)...

and Baird Point.

This all made C nostalgic for the days she roller bladed around Buffalo full of potential and options. Brett and C kept repeating how they had such a wonderful community of friends and artists in Buffalo. And now in Chicago.

It was a fantastic trip.
And now I am back in C's studio in Chicago working on teaching and design work again.

Hope C takes you on her honeymoon,
c

c Chicago. correspondence week 2.

c,
sorry to hear about your glasses.
Wow. I like your friend fish. I look forward to meeting him next week when I come visit you in Niagara Falls for C's wedding.

This week has been pretty much a normal work week:

assisting Todd at his studio;
some design work of my own;
and I started teaching an Intro to Design class at Columbia College.

As you know, I love teaching this beginning design course.
The class started last Wednesday and I had to prepare the syllabus.

The crazy thing is that there are only 9 classes in total,
so a huge amount of material to cover in a small amount of time.

The rest of the week was same old:

watering my plants in the morning

doing some laundry

and watching a movie in the evening

See you next week in NF!
I cannot wait!

c, today I went fishing in the Niagara River. But I was having trouble catching fish...

when I finally caught one... he told me he is depressed and was on his way to the falls to commit suicide.

his name is "fish". we are now friends.

p.s. my glasses broke 2 weeks ago. can't see a damn thing. C keeps acting like she is too busy to make me new ones.

c Chicago. correspondence week 1.

dear c,
yesterday was a particularly hard day.
our dear friend meghan moved away to washington dc.
i went by to help her load the last few things into the truck and to hug goodbye.

in this photo, meghan and i are sitting amongst the things that would not fit in the moving truck.

you left last week and now she one week later.

after meghan pulled away, C found me frozen in a goodbye wave; arrested with memories and an urgent wish that life would stop changing.

i am happy for you both but sad to not have you here

afterwards, i had to go right back to work,
assisting Todd Rosenthal in his design studio.
My task for the day was painting a backdrop for The Seagull at the Goodman.

it was hard to focus, but good to keep busy.
